What’s New about Hepatitis C?, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

This presentation will examine the latest information in Hepatitis C epidemiology, transmission and prevention, screening and diagnosis, treatment options and outcomes, treatment options in the clinical trial pipeline, medication concerns for patients with Hepatitis C, and ethical and legal issues for Hepatitis C disclosure.

Anesthesia for Non-Permitholders, Part I*, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Temple University School of Dentistry

The presentation will explore the physiology, new pharmokinetics and history of Nitrous Oxide. Topics for discussion will include: manufacturing and distribution; body systems and health considerations, including the patient, assistant and dentist; assessment and preparation; N2O abuse; understanding the rationale and medications used for pre-sedation; recognizing the problems that may be encountered with both enteral and Nitrous Oxide sedation; controversies about Nitrous Oxide; and use of terms and vocabulary for patient reassurance. Final presentation will include most frequently asked questions regarding enteral and Nitrous Oxide sedation.

* Part II (2 hours) will be presented on Friday, April 4, at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue Hotel. There will be separate fee for Part I and Part II. Registration forms for Part II will be available on November 2 at the Part I program.

One-Appointment Impressions for Dentures, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This program will demonstrate an edentulous tray system combining both the static and the functional impression techniques into a single appointment. Attendees will be introduced to the Massad/Thornton Tissue Character Mobility Test (M/T), and Dr. Lobel will explain how this information is used to determine the correct viscosity of impression material to use to achieve the greatest accuracy in edentulous impressioning.

Osteonecrosis of the Jaws, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This lecture will review the process of osteonecrosis of the jaws with particular emphasis on this phenomenon in patients who have taken bisphosphonate medications. The proposed theories of pathogenesis, disease progression, and treatment guidelines will be reviewed.
