WELCOME MEMBERS

Welcome to the Philadelphia County Dental Society (PCDS)! It is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome from the officers and members of PCDS.

Your membership is valuable not only to you as an individual dentist but to the thousands of other dedicated professionals who share your field. Being part of PCDS, the Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) and the American Dental Association (ADA) means working together to support the dental profession and the patients we serve. Here is a summary of how PCDS pursues these goals:

Providing low-cost continuing education to members

PCDS, through the PDA, holds a number of continuing education courses throughout the year, most at a discounted rate to our members. A few of our upcoming courses include:

  • Friday, November 8, 2024 - CE Program at Courtyard Marriott Philadelphia City Avenue, Restoring Endodontically Treated Teeth, presented by Dr. Priya Tirumalasetty in cooperation with Catapult Education, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Friday, December 6, 2024 - CE Program at Courtyard Marriott Philadelphia City Avenue, Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting (Act 31) and Dental Sleep Medicine 101, presented by Angela M. Stout, DMD, MPH and Lauren E. Levi, DMD, MS, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Please visit the PCDS CE Registration for further information and to register.

Providing a variety of membership benefits

Members of PCDS receive complimentary issues of The Journal delivered via email four (4) times a year, as well as a monthly newsletter, Smile Philcodent, on the months The Journal is not published. Members also have access to our past issues dating back through 2019 on our website.

Members of PCDS are also welcome to attend any Board of Governor meeting they wish. You can find a list of our meeting on our Calendar Page. Members also are invited to our exclusive study groups/events we host throughout the year.  You can find a listing of all our events on our Events Calendar Page. PCDS has a variety of events we are planning for 2024 from cultural study groups, a Family Picnic, and an Ask a Specialist event.

Members of PCDS are also encouraged to get involved and become an active member within the Society. We value your membership and we want to hear your voice. We strive to learn how we can best serve our members and provide them with a worthwhile membership.  If there's an area of interest that you'd like to get more involved with, let us know so we can get you in touch with the correct person. Email Lisa Gottlieb

Becoming a member of PCDS also grants you access to all the latest updates and news in the Dental Community.  In 2020 and 2021, the Dental Community really came together in regards to handling the Covid-19 Pandemic.  Information was sent to our members regularly in regards to Philadelphia Department of Health guidelines and restrictions, mandates and access to vaccines.

Helping our community

Each year many PCDS members donate time and resources to support the Philadelphia community by volunteering at local clinics/hospitals or charitable events.

This year the MOM-n-PA hosted their annual two-day free dental clinic for underserved Pennsylvanians in Reading, PA. 763 volunteers helped provide dental care!  Dental treatment is provided at NO COST to individuals who cannot afford dental care.  Next year the MOM-n-PA will be hosting their event in Wilkes-Barre, PA  on June 6 and June 7 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.  For more information about the MOM event or to register as a volunteer, visit their website here

PCDS has also participated in the ADA's Give Kids a Smile program as well.  For more information about Give Kids a Smile, visit the ADA's website here.

Again, thank you for choosing PCDS as your local professional organization. I sincerely value your membership and look forward to meeting you soon at one of our upcoming events. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact the Philadelphia County Dental Society at 1-215-925-6050 or by email if you have questions or concerns or if you'd like to get more involved.

Best Regards,
Janine Burkhardt, DMD M.P.H.
